Procrastination is the habit of delaying important or difficult action while attending instead to tasks that feel easier, more urgent, or more pleasant. It is not the same as deliberate prioritization; the defining mark is that the postponed task remains the one that matters.
It is best understood as a recurring pattern rather than a single lapse. The cost is rarely a missed deadline alone — it is the slow erosion of momentum, opportunity, and self-trust that comes from repeatedly choosing the comfortable task over the consequential one.

Breaking the pattern means addressing the trigger, not just demanding more discipline. Defining the task precisely reduces uncertainty; shrinking it to a small first step lowers the activation cost; deciding promptly and acting before reluctance accumulates denies the habit its opening. Decisiveness, practiced consistently, is the trained opposite of procrastination.
