Definition
The inertia default is the brain's preference to continue whatever is already happening. Whatever you started yesterday tends to repeat today — not because it is still the best choice, but because changing requires energy and not changing does not.
It is the fourth and most quietly destructive of Parrish's biological defaults. Emotion, ego, and social each leave fingerprints; inertia leaves the absence of one. You do not notice the years that pass on autopilot until you look back.
The distinction worth marking: inertia is not the same as commitment. Commitment is a deliberate choice to continue. Inertia is the failure to even ask the question.

Where it shows up
In jobs held three years past the point of growth. In subscriptions paid years after their value ended. In strategies executed for a decade because that was the strategy. In personal habits — how you eat, sleep, train, spend evenings — that fit who you were five years ago but not who you are now.
Parrish's prescription is a periodic re-decision. Put recurring commitments on a clock — quarterly for projects, annually for major life choices — and force an explicit yes or no. Continuing should be the result of a decision, not the absence of one.
