A Swarm In May Is Worth A Load Of Hay; A Swarm In June Is Worth A Silver Spoon; But A Swarm In July Is Not Worth A Fly

Early bee swarms are highly valuable because the colony has time to build up honey stores before winter; late swarms are worthless for the same reason.

Examples:

  • A swarm of bees in May is worth a load of hay; a swarm of bees in June is worth a silver spoon; a swarm of bees in July is worth not a fly.
