Hold Your Horses

To wait, slow down, or pause before proceeding, usually to allow a small problem to be addressed.

Examples:

  • Hold your horses — you can't just bowl down there shouting and waving your arms.
  • Hold your horses before we sign anything — I want the legal team to review the clause.

Origin: From historical coach travel, where passengers would ask drivers to hold their horses while boarding.

Synonyms: slow down, wait a moment, take it easy
