Drop Dead

An expression of anger, rejection, or indignation; a rude dismissal. As an adjective ('drop-dead'), means dazzling or awe-inspiring.

Examples:

  • I should do all that work for you? Drop dead!
  • She wore a drop-dead outfit that all the other women admired.

Origin: c. 1930 as an exclamation; 1960s as an adjective.
